Justin Montigne is an expressive singer fluent in various musical styles and periods, toured the world for three years as an alto with the Grammy Award-winning Chanticleer, performing in venues from Carnegie Hall to Vienna’s Musikverein and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. He has sung numerous alto and tenor solos in oratorios by Handel, Bach, Purcell, Mozart, and Haydn, as well as contemporary choral works with various orchestras and choirs. He has also performed operatic ensemble and solo roles with Minnesota Opera, Western Plains Opera, City Concert Opera, and Ars Minerva.
A founding member of the Bay Area men’s ensemble Clerestory, he curated thirty-six concert programs over fourteen seasons and co-produced two commercially available recordings. He specializes in early music but has premiered contemporary works with orchestra and in recital, and enjoys programming French chansons, German lieder, and tunes from the Great American Songbook alongside the works of Handel and Bach.
